LEGO 2K Drive (Switch) | Random Races #1
There's not that many modern racing games that catch me by surprise when playing it for the first time, especially when it's an arcade racer like this one as LEGO 2K Drive is one of those titles that did so. I was not expecting this to be a chaotic vehicular combat arcade racer, it's like Mario Kart and Dirty Drivin' but as bricks...
Developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K, LEGO 2K Drive is set in Bricklandia, which consists of a number of regions which can be freely explored by players. The game features destructible environments, as is common in LEGO games. In addition to completing the story, players can complete different mini-games and challenges in the game's world. In the game, players can create their vehicles with 1,000 unique LEGO pieces and share them with other users very similar to ModNation Racers. You can use more conventional options such as those from LEGO City and LEGO Creator are also . Vehicles can also transform, similar to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed where a land-based vehicle can transform into a boat if it is driven into water. LEGO 2K Drive also includes both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, two-player split-screen, as well as online multiplayer.
From what I understand, members of the team that worked on LEGO 2K Drive also developed Hydro Thunder and San Francisco Rush which definitely feels like it with the amount of airtime you can get when you launch off a ramp. Also you can boost jump like in Crazy Taxi 3, do it off a ramp and it will feel definitely like Rush, Cruis'n, or Dirty Drivin'.
I am playing the Nintendo Switch version, but it's also available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. I also downloaded some user created vehicles for this Random Races video. A Subaru Impreza, the Rad Hazard boat from Hydro Thunder, and a Testarossa to look like the Italia P69 from Cruis'n USA. Enjoy some chaos in the form of LEGO bricks...
