Well worth the small investment
As a newbie when it comes to jerky making I was in search of the best tool to maximize my turn-around time and labor in making hamburger (beef) jerky and in the near future venison burger jerky. I have made a couple of batch's of Beef Jerky with hamburger using a very manual method and it works fine but it takes a lot of time.
I researched several jerky guns and despite a couple of negative reviews on the Lem gun (which I don't understand after using the one I bought) I bought the Lem. After a few minutes of practice I was in love with it. Simple and easy. I did have to adjust my own way of loading the tube, rolling out a log of ground meat just did not seem to work out for me. Instead loading the tube with a spoon and packing it down works a charm. If you have ever used a caulk gun you can use this thing. Clean up is not to bad. I used a tooth brush in the hard to clean places in the push rod assembly and had no need for anything special to clean out the grooves. Obviously you want to make sure to do a really good clean up with anything dealing with meat and I see no issues with being able to clean the inner workings on the unit. I will come back after 4 or 5 batch's and update if I find anything that I feel needs to be commented on. However, for the money the quality of the construction and the simplicity of the unit seems to make it well worth the money and it certainly has justified the expense as far as my time is concerned.
