This is my original composition for "Lighthouse," a fundraiser album for Out Youth. Out Youth is a charity that supports LGBTQIA+ youth in central Texas and 100% of the profits from this album will be donated to support their cause. (This video is not monetized.)

I’m incredibly grateful to @CaitlinAyala for putting this album together and inviting me to compose a piece for it! I actually started writing "Let the Light In" near the beginning of the pandemic as a way to work through everything going on at the time, but somewhere along the way I convinced myself it wasn't good enough for whatever reason and left it in a Dropbox folder for another day. When Caitlin reached out to me about the charity album earlier this year, I decided to give this marimba solo another chance and I'm really glad I did!

The beginning sections have more dissonance and space, reflecting a sense of emptiness and discomfort. The middle arpeggios bring about some much-needed energy and warmth. The last two sections revisit the themes from the beginning, but this time in the relative major. The last section specifically revisits the earlier 12/8 theme in 4/4, filling the space with more consistent 8ths/16ths and creating a steady ground for the end to land on. The filled space in the last section feels more comfortable in a reassuring sense, almost as if we've let the light in.
