Lethal Thunder (Arcade, Penalties Enabled) Console Style Arcade Playthrough
Around 30 minutes to beat after just completing the game on Default settings. The Default setting is what I label as Coin Waster Style, meaning you credit feed to win, respawn right where you died, with no consequences for death. For this second playthrough I changed the Dip Switches to "Continuous Play" set to "Off", as well as turning my lives up to max and changing the points to 1up value. Those don't really matter since you have to beat each section on 1 life and have unlimited continues. Turning off continuous play makes this game into a Console Style game, which on my KILL LIST, means an arcade game with penalties for death. Basically it means this setting will send me back to the last checkpoint any time I die. I prefer this as I tend to avoid arcade games where I can credit feed to win (aside from the occasional 1CC or low credit run).
Let me know if you'd like to see more of these "Coin Waster" types of arcade playthroughs as I am considering adding them into my monthly KILL QUOTA (25 console and console style games beaten per month minimum). Once I modify the monthly quota to mix those in it means I will tend to target them much more frequently. The reason I am planning this change is that with the high volume of games I complete yearly (400-600) I am going through a lot of console games that are already in this No Penalty style. There's a lot of compilations of these games on other platforms. They are some of the fastest and easiest kills for the list, but its getting to a point where "Console Style" doesn't have the same appeal it once did. They are starting to blend together and I would like to clear out more of these types of arcade games. I have already cleared out MOST of the unique fighting games I come across on all platforms and even many of the ports of those same games (compilations, other platforms, etc). Since those have dried up for years now, I've been playing through a lot of other quick kills on compilations. They've become the new fighting games, for that purpose.
Deaths where no new checkpoint progress was made are edited out. This means I show the first death at each new checkpoint, but not any repeated deaths in that same section. I also remove any deaths that happen before reaching the first checkpoint of a stage.
Still this game was easy for a Console Style IREM Arcade game, which I've completed a number of. They've put out some tough shooters like Dragon Breed and the R-Type series.
