Three floors is what the traditional Labyrinth of Touhou stratum has spanned. Such a stratum typically has its conclusion with a boss that is harder than anything else in that set of floors and even stays a difficulty spike for a good while into the next area. For fluffy but cunning Ran, this is somewhat true, but at the same time isn't. If you're prepared and consider the cardinal rule of this encounter, I'd say it is less obnoxious than the Shikigami Master. But if you're going into this without any expectation, you're in for a rude awakening.
Ran is also a summoner of minions that you need to treat fundamentally different then the ones we saw last time. Apart from that, you're attacked by pretty fierce mystic-elemental spells that require a lot of mind to mitigate. Luckily we have a new tank that is a perfect fit against all of what the Kitsune throws at us.
Our opponent also has fixed attack for the 80, 60, 40 and 20 percent hitpoint thresholds. If you can rush from one of these to the next, you will always know what spells to endure. Lastly, due to a frosty weakness, the Kitsune takes a lot of damage from Cirno specifically. I get a feeling the ice fairy will be quite good in this installment!
