This really stumped me and I'm not sure it should have. I ended up having to go look up how to do this. I'm guessing they expected players to just start shooting it and seeing what happened and I probably should have done that had I noticed the visual aspect of it lightening up, but anyway, here we are. New puzzle mechanics at the last dungeon of the game.
