Let's Make A Monstah! (MV) - Archon - RPG Maker MV Tutorial - RPGMMV
78How's it going everyone, in this RPG Maker MV video we create a new monster called the "Archon." This will be a hulking beast of an enemy that has four custom skills.
Crystal Fist: A physical melee attack to replace the basic attack.
Clear Missile: A physical ranged attack that inflicts a damage over time.(DOT)
Shatter Swipe: A physical area of effect(AOE) attack that will apply a defense down debuff on the targets.
Crystal Storm: A powerful AOE that inflicts a high amount of Radiant damage to the party.
We make five custom animations, one for each skill and one for the new state we create. We make a simple trash item for the enemy to drop when it dies, and tweak the numbers over and over until we find a good balance to how strong it should be. In order for the new enemies we create to fit in the game and not be too strong or too weak, we have to playtest it over and over.
Hopefully you enjoy this longer form tutorial that goes over in full detail all the things we need to think about when making new enemies. It's not as simple as a name and a sprite. It means making new skills (all the animations for those skills), new items, possibly action sequencing as well, and states that may be used in the skills. Many things factor into making a good enemy, but the best piece of advice I can leave you with is, playtest, playtest, playtest. Thanks for watching! :)
