Let's Play 80 Days - Around the World We Go! - Episode 02
Jules Verne is one of the pioneers of science fiction, adventure tales and maritime novels. His works - originally pruned and dumbed down as children's stories by biased (British) publishers - are indeed complex and fantastic literary gems. His works have been used in many a film and television series - and in games, like this one.
80 Days is a time management/interactive novel sort of game, with a backdrop in Verne's fiction. As the title suggests, the primary influence is the novel 'Around the World in 80 Days', in which the British gentleman Phileas Fogg makes a wager he can circumnavigate the planet in a mere 80 days due to the marvels of modern means of communication, like the railroad.
The game takes that familiar tale and twists it. You play Passepartout, Fogg's trusted valet. You're tasked with guiding Fogg through a steampunk version of 1872, riddled with cities and adventures to explore. Many of Verne's works give guest appearances, among them '20.000 Leagues Under the Sea', 'From the Earth to the Moon' and 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'. Many real-life characters of the era such as Jesse James can also show up. Good luck tracking down all the special encounters; you'll need many playthroughs for it. :-p
This playthrough will be a fairly basic stomp, though, primarily meant to give you a taste of what this little gem of a game has to offer, secondly meant to test my reading comprehension and vocal stamina - expect me to do a lot of reading in this one.
