Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs is the first expansion pack for Age of Empires III. Like the base game, it was developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The game was first released on October 17, 2006 in the United States.
Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs introduces three new Native American civilisations: the Iroquois, the Sioux, and the Aztecs. In addition to that, several new minor tribes were added as well as new maps.
European civilisation now have the option to build a saloon and a Native embassy, and use it to hire mercenaries and Native warriors. A number of other new units were also introduced.
Lastly, the game adds a new campaign with two acts, Fire and Shadow. The former takes place during the American War of Independence, and the latter during the times of the Old West. Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs was overall well-received.
