The chapter begins with Alan waking up in a cabin, where he learns that Alice has been missing for a week. Sheriff Sarah Breaker tells Alan that his car was found crashed, but there's no sign of Alice. Alan receives a phone call from a mysterious man claiming to have kidnapped Alice. The kidnapper demands that Alan meet him at a secluded location. Alan meets Dr. Emil Hartman, who runs a clinic for artists. Hartman claims to be familiar with Alan’s work and offers his help, though Alan remains skeptical of his intentions.
Alan's literary agent and friend, Barry Wheeler, arrives in Bright Falls to help Alan. Barry’s skepticism and humor provide a stark contrast to the dark events, adding a layer of complexity to the story. One of the chapter's highlights is a major battle at the Visitor’s Center. The Taken swarm the building, and I must use all available light sources and weapons to fend them off.
After successfully fending off the dark crows and other threats, I return to the lodge to reunite with Barry. The relief is short-lived as the darkness continues to loom over Bright Falls.
