Episode 5: Tower of Power
This are plays out a bit differently when one goes for a Speedrun route, because it's faster to do the outer areas before the interior. The exterior is annoying though, because it holds our first Zeta Metroids, who no longer fly, but have increased agility on the ground anyway. They can do some damage, and they can deflect your attacks with their little claw attacks, so they are still likely the most annoying variety of Metroid. The Tower, out of all of the areas that was also present in the original game, has the most changes, be it added areas or gimmicks. We also get a new sub-area, the Power Plant, which serves to not only have a new (easy) boss fight, but also to give us something that was not only missing in Metroid II, but also bring in a later ability.
