There are many quests in Baldur’s Gate 2 but only so many locations where they can be started and completed. This means that multiple quests can be finished at once if you’re thorough and that’s not limited to quests you have in your log either; some quests can effectively be completed before you’ve even got them, requiring little more than to talk to a few people to get the experience and monetary rewards. Usually this is done by collecting an item that seems important due to its uniqueness and holding onto it until you get to the NPC who wants you to recover it, though it can also be achieved by defeating a foe someone wants you to face before you meet the one who asks you to do so.

Some games wouldn’t change how the quest progresses due to your thoroughness which leads to clunky and unnatural scenes where you’re told to do the quest only to then speak to them again a moment later and inform them it’s been done. Baldur’s Gate 2 is not one of those games, going the extra mile to take into account unlikely situations and provide dialogue suited to the situation. It’s little touches like these that show the care and attention to detail that went into making it, not to mention it brings us to the awesome rewards for finishing quests even faster.
