Command & Conquer, also known as Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn, is the first entry in the Command & Conquer series of real-time strategy games. It was developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive on September 26, 1995 in North America.
The game is the spiritual sequel to Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty, likewise developed by Westwood and widely considered to be the first real-time strategy game featuring the trinity of base building, resource collecting, and army management.
Command & Conquer takes place in the near future and depicts GDI, a UN anti-terrorism task force, against the Brotherhood of Nod, an ancient cult and terrorist organisation.
The war between the two factions takes place shorty after the arrival of Tiberium, an alien substance that spreads rapidly across the planet. Tiberium devastates the environment, but also extracts resources from the soil, making it incredibly valuable.
Command & Conquer was a critical and commercial success. It spawn numerous sequels and spin-offs, and together with its immediate sequel, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, received a remaster in 2020.
