Let's Play: Crying Suns - Part 1 - I should not have beaten Chapter 1.
Part 1 of my playthrough of Crying Suns.
Crying Suns is about you, a clone of an Admiral being revived by a menacing-looking robot because something bad has happened to The Empire TM, and we have to check it out. As we get to exploring, we realize things are maybe worse than originally thought.
I had no idea what I was walking into when I booted up Crying Suns; I'd watched the trailer and that was enough for me. Also it was free on Epic so like.... why not, you know?
In practical terms Crying Suns combines FTL-style map movement and events with a hexagon grid battle system that uses a glorified rock-paper-scissors weakness cycle, but has enough twists to keep it interesting and stressful. The system maps are full of random events that are either very good or very bad. You can do away missions with these to try and get bonus materials and such, but come with associated risk. There is a lot going on in what I thought was going to be a small rogue-lite.
I want to make sure to point out that this game looks and sounds fantastic. It has such a specific motif, and I really dig it. I am overall shocked at how much I'm enjoying this game, given it was a shot in the dark.
