Doom 3 is a unique and very misunderstood entry in the Doom series. It's less action and more emphasis on horror and atmosphere while taking some pages out of the original Half-Life and it actually works. In the old games, you fought the doom. In the new games, you are the doom. In this entry however, you felt the doom. This game's placement in the timeline is kinda weird. Some claim it's a reboot, others say it's a remake of the original Doom, and others say it's a prequel while everyone else says none of that matters since this game's continuity was abandoned when Doom 2016 was released. I think this game serves better as a prequel. The original Doom took place on Phobos, Mars' moon, while this game takes place on Mars itself thus chronicling the events of the first demonic invasion and the UAC's obsession with teleportation to an unknown dimension that turns out to be Hell. Before the time of Doomguy, we play as a different soldier known as Doom Marine. Doom Marine arrives on Mars with an inspection team consisting with Swann and Campbell from a ship called the Darkstar. He was called to replace another marine who died during an operation. As he is assigned by Master Sergeant Kelly, a.k.a "Sarge", to find a missing scientist named Jonathan Ishii who was last seen in the old Communications Facility, Councilor Swann and Campbell argue with Dr. Betruger about the many incidents happening throughout the base, along with frightened employees and rumors of what is happening in the Delta Labs. Betruger replies to Swann that "amazing things will happen here soon," and to stay out of his way.
