Empire Earth is a real-time strategy game developed by Stainless Steel Studios and published by Sierra On-Line. It was first released for Windows on November 12, 2001. It is the first game in the RTS series of the same name.
Its main feature are the numerous epochs the game's factions advance through, not unlike those in Age of Empires or Rise of Nations. Empire Earth covers all time periods from the Palaeolithic to the future. Outside of that, it has traditional resource gathering, base building, and army management on land, sea, and in the air.
Empire Earth has 21 factions, ranging from Ancient Greece and Babylonia to France and Russia and finally to China and the United States. Various civilisations have epochs in which they are especially powerful, and all have civilisation-specific bonuses.
The game has a tutorial campaign divided between the Phoenicians and the Byzantines, as well as campaigns for the Greeks, English, Germans, and Russians. Empire Earth sold more than a million copies and got positive reviews. Later on, it would receive an expansion pack as well as two sequels.
