Let's Play Final Fantasy IX // Part 20: Ipsen's Castle & The Four Shrines
NOTE: I've got a full breakdown video in development of the recently released Memoria Project, a fan-made FFIX tribute. I hope to release it at the end of August 2023, it's going to be awesome!
We make a brief pit stop in Alexandria to pull treasure out from the rubble, go back to Daguerreo to get our Rank S Trasure Hunter Award, then we get back on the story beat as the party heads into the topsy-turvy labyrinths of Ipsen's Castle before splitting up and doing battle with the guardians of Terra at the Four Shrines (water, fire, earth and wind). We finish off the sesh with a pit stop in Treno to cash in our Stellazzio!

Apologies in advance for any cuss words, I will try to keep this series PG. Open to suggestions & things I missed, or any easter eggs you know about, so feel free to jump on the comments!

My eXperience with FFIX goes back to 2000. As a young parent who was raised on Atari, NES and SNES, I'd never really carried the video game bug with me into the PlayStation age, I'd moved on to other hobbies (music mostly). Once I'd heard about FFIX coming out, though, it immediately gave me the feels for FFI (NES) but especially for FFIV (FF2 on SNES in the US) and FFVI (FF3 on SNES in the US). I wasn't a gamer at all at the time so I didn't really give a crap that the PSone was a dying console, soon to be phased out by the PS2. I don't even remember how I heard about it, may have walked past it in a Walmart or something, but the visuals for this game are what brought me to it, so I happily bought a new PSone (they were selling for $50 by this point) , a copy of FFIX, and was immediately rewarded with what remains, 20+ years on, as my favorite of all time, which I have played through at least a dozen times over the years.
So join me, if you're down to hang, for a nice chill run (with some sidequests and goodie hunting) through my favorite game, FFIX. No speedrun here. I'll cut out the super tedious & grindy bits and reserve the right to go full 9999 cheat whenever I damn well please-- I ain't in this for any gamer cred-- just for my own (and hopefully your) enjoyment and that's it. :)
