You can place someone to guard Merlinus if you want,but I always just use him as a distraction and sacrifice him this stage. Several Shamen will also spawn from the area near where Raven started. Speaking of Raven,if you recruited him with Priscilla,have him talk to Lucius to recruit him again as well. Lucius can deal with any Shamen that appear easily. The northern chests have a Knight Crest and and Silver Sword to pilfer. Take care of the remaining Knights,then get ready to fight the boss Bernard. He's a General,a class changed Knight. He has a Steel Lance and no ranged weapons,but there's a good chance ranged attackers will barely hurt him anyway,even Erk and Lucius. Oswin and Hector are good choices to deal with him. After the fight,the group discovers the Ostian spy Leila,and she tells them a bit about Eliwood's father,and the plot surrounding him and the Black Fang. Lyn's grandfather is also alive! If you saved at least 1 Caelin Soldier,you'll unlock the next Gaiden Chapter. Saving all 3 also nets you a Red Gem to sell.
