Let's play Forgiveness part 6: Envy
We're down to the last of our rooms here, our next room is Envy. Don't mistake my speed for completing this as it being easy as it is much harder than anything we've done before it
Puzzle 1
For this puzzle we need to refer to the pictures above the computer. (I've seen that originally you had to find the pictures first but I'm pretty sure this was changed) take note of the bolded letters, then use the arrows to have them swap positions to get your code.
This may sound a bit confusing so here's an example: the picture emPathy and communIcation have arrows to each other so for our password their positions are switched (ip instead of pi) and we do this for each pair of letters, finally reading them from top left to bottom right (ipntsv)
do note that this HAS to be in lowercase for it to work. For a while i was struggling with it not working each time I typed it in, only to realize my caps lock was on. a bit annoying, but nothing too troublesome
Puzzle 2
Here we are given a set of chat messages. The main contents are not important, however the colors that are mentioned are. Red, blue, yellow, pink, purple, and green. What you need to do here is look at the paintings for each color in the order they are mentioned. Each painting on the wall has a letter and once you track all six letters down it will spell out “eleven”. This is the password we need to put into the computer, which will turn off the computer and lead to the third puzzle
Puzzle 3
Now the VHS tape player has opened and we need to find a specific tape to put into the player. Find the tape with the label 11 and place it into the tape player. It will then display and speak out a riddle:
“brothers and sisters, I have none, but that man’s father is my father’s son”
This is a known riddle that involves someone holding a photograph and then says the statement mentioned above. The answer to this riddle is that man’s son. If he has no brothers and sisters then his father’s son can only be him. There we much search around for pieces of paper with letters on them and place it into the cardholder on the VHS player spelling out “son”. Once that’s done the door opens and we can leave this place
This room is…as you would expect challenging. All the puzzles are hard to figure out without hints, and even with them it can be hard to understand what needs to be done before hand. Of course this sort of thing is no fun when its super easy but this is a cut above most of what we've done here.
As a note: This room, along with wrath are the rooms I’ve the hardest time connecting with their associated sins. All the other rooms are obvious enough or provide enough detail that you can determine what sin they’re supposed to represent. That said I can definitely see somethings to how this room connects with envy, but it doesn’t completely click. I also don't get how the riddle connects with envy.
