Glory of Heracles is a Japanese RPG series by Data East which closely follows the formula established by Dragon Quest (except for the recent DS installment) but using an Ancient Greek setting. Most installments in the series were written by Kazushige Nojima, who would later write many Final Fantasy scenarios starting with the Playstation era.

The third game in the series was the first for the Super Famicom (SNES) and was critically acclaimed for its scenario. The reputation Nojima built with this game earned him a job at Square among the FFVII staff. Director Yoshinori Kitase explicitly asked him to write a mystery scenario for FFVII like the one in GoH3.

In part 4 our heroes return to the pixie village once more before they finally leave the island and meet the dark one, a fierce beast obstructing the sea ways.

The latter half of this episode illustrates that the field maps / dungeons in RPGs are as much of an actor as the characters, that they tell as much of a story as the dialog.
