Glory of Heracles is a Japanese RPG series by Data East which closely follows the formula established by Dragon Quest (except for the recent DS installment) but using an Ancient Greek setting. Most installments in the series were written by Kazushige Nojima, who would later write many Final Fantasy scenarios starting with the Playstation era.

The third game in the series was the first for the Super Famicom (SNES) and was critically acclaimed for its scenario. The reputation Nojima built with this game earned him a job at Square among the FFVII staff. Director Yoshinori Kitase explicitly asked him to write a mystery scenario for FFVII like the one in GoH3.

There is a fan translation patch available at romhacking.net which I used for this Let's Play:

In part 8 we finally get to meet Heracles.

I have mentioned above that the Final Fantasy staff at Square knew this game and wanted Nojima to write FFVII because of it. I also have already pointed out some base scenes in this game that would later reappear in more sophisticated form in FFVII, like the hero dressing up as a girl in part 2 and there will be more later on.

But the scene in this part where Heracles crashes the stage play could indicate that the FF staff took cues from Nojima's work even before he started working for Square. In this scene from Final Fantasy VI also a theatrical staging is interrupted:

Of course, here it's not a great hero who wants to stop the drama but a villain, and the hero, although ending up interrupting the play, tries to keep going somehow. Whereas the Ancient hero Heracles thinks drama to be immoral, the galant thief Locke fits right in with the show.
