I know I've beaten the Y'Shtola hate train to death here, but damn do I really dislike how she keeps getting shoved into situations she has no place being. Had that meeting not been in there IMMEDIATELY BEFORE, her pulling rank would not have been any sort of issue. There was absolutely NO point of that meeting if nothing was going to come of it and no one wanted to elect a new leader.
The only good thing that comes out of the pointless meeting is Alisaie and her praising and nominating her brother to the position of leader. Not only does it show how much she has grown, but shows how she is the ONLY one among the Scions who is implicitly telling him he's being too hard on himself for the Crystal Braves disasters; half of which weren't even his fault to begin with. The others could have still given him SOME kind of encouragement while still wishing to not impose the title on him if he truly didn't feel right having it.
Besides one moment from Y'Shtola upon her return telling him the banquet wasn't to be blamed on him, the Scions have been completely silent on the issues regarding his handling of the Braves entirely. If the game wants to move on and drop that subject into the past, okay, but they need to stop having Alphinaud himself keep using it as a crutch. As long as he keeps playing that card to remind us why he refuses to take charge ever again, that issue needs to be addressed and acknowledged by others as well. They could very easily point out that he is calling and often spearheading these meetings, and that all of them have been completely fine with it and show him no disrespect.
And the game has an easy way to solve this while giving me another thing I feel is needed: have him momentarily break down and explicitly state what's really going on; that he is absolutely terrified of making a similar mistake. Alisaie hard to come to terms in Coil about how she was not as helpless as she thought and had a support network standing with her; now Alphinaud needs to learn he is not defined by his mistakes as long as he learns from them, and he certainly has, and that he has that same support network to fall back on should he falter.
