Let's Play JStris Survival Mode. Does Anyone Else Hear Boss Music?
1Hang on... I think I left the Twisted Metal 3 disc in my CD drive for some reason.
On a serious note, JSTris Survival mode has a brutal difficulty that's so rough, lasting 30 seconds is an accomplishment for us mere mortals.
There's a lot at play here that really puts a new perspective on Tetris. For one, if you play normal Tetris strategies, you'll get fried pretty quickly in this mode. You not only have to consider piece placement, avoiding line dependencies, and plan out your pieces so they at least make some sense, but you also have to focus on downstacking as quickly as humanly possible. It's not just the pieces you place, but what you are dealing with coming up below on top of it all.
This is not even mentioning the idea of planning out piece placement as best as possible. The bag system does help because you always know you can expect a line piece every 7 pieces or so, but this only partially helps the situation.
On top of it all, you have to manage misdrops however you can (and I do slip from time to time, though, at that speed, it's hard to be mad about it especially considering how quickly I can clean up my mistakes, uh, most of the time).
Oh, and you'll be getting one line of garbage every second on top of it all when most players struggle to be able to keep up with one piece per second. So, it's not just the insane speed that makes it tough even though that's the obvious side of things.
Generally speaking, I consider myself to be an average to above average Tetris player. I don't think I'll ever be anywhere near as good as players like Firestorm or Wumbo or anything like that. I'm just happy to be OK at these games.
