We finish up Floor 18 and catch up with Rinnosuke.

Rinnosuke (Boss):
If you hate multiform/phase battles, you are going to despise this one. Rinnosuke has a total of 8 forms. He starts of in a neutral form where he takes average damage from all elements and uses mostly his standard move set along with Ratetsu Fist and other physical based attacks. His standard move set includes Scarlet Gold Sword which does high physical damage and drains 1 TP from whoever it hits. His other move is Start of Heavenly Demise which is a non elemental composite attack that can easily wipe an unprepared party. Having Reimu or Yukari's defensive buffs will make surviving his aoe much easier.

Once you do enough damage to his initial form, he will randomly change into one of his six elemental forms. Each elemental form takes double damage from its opposing element and 20% damage from its own element. Each form has its own move list though they all have Scarlet Gold Sword and Start of Heavenly Demise but thankfully no Ratsetsu Fist (which is 100% piercing if you have forgotten). There is a detailed list on the Touhou wiki site for each form's moves so I will not go into detail on them. Just know to not have certain characters out during certain elements (Like Cirno out while he is Fire form or Chen during Cold form). Spirit form has instant death attacks so becareful of those and Mystic form has stat debuffing attacks. Wind form has a paralyze attack. Besides that, its mostly just raw elemental damage.

Each form has its own HP. Do enough damage to a form and he will do Form Destruction and change into another random element. Form Destruction means that element is now gone from the list. If you take too long in a form, he will Form Shift instead and that form will remain on the list and gradually recover HP each turn though not too much.

Once all six elements are destroyed, he will change back into a neutral form. His movelist will now include a self buff that increases his all his stats by 66% which can make his aoe composite attack much more painful. He also only takes about 66% damage from all elements in this form.

Trick to this fight is to know your elements. If he is Fire, blast him with Cold (or at least something not Fire). If he is Spirit, hit im with Mystic. The faster you pound down his hp, the more actions he will have to spent just Form Destructing into the next phase. Just do not forget to prepare your defenses if you are not able to do enough damage with your nukers. In his final phase, hit him with everything you got before he buffs up too much.

He has a 25% chance to drop Star of Elendil.
