Let's Play - Magic 2014 - Episode 1 with Natajn
I hate it and I love it and I know who to blame for each of those feelings
Magic 2014 is the current money grab by wizards of the coast and I both love it and despise it. The gameplay is fantastic because Magic is a great game that has both exhilarating combinations and infuriating mechanics (infuriating because it makes you lose). The card game is transposed very well leaving me with only a few control gripes.
The unbelievably disappointing side stems from their low cost to play with plenty of micro transactions and expansions business model. You can play the game to unlock cards to make the decks better, or you can buy them. But that doesn't bother me as much as the AWESOME NEW sealed deck campaign that let's you create a deck from a set of random cards it gives you. The issue is once you beat the campaign, there is nothing more. You can BUY more sealed deck campaigns however. So you basically get a taste of awesome and then have to fork over cash to get more.
I can't love any game that I have to pay for in the first place and then makes me pay MORE for the fun parts. The micro transaction model ruins the fun in this game, by constantly reminding me how much MORE fun I would be having if only I didn't respect myself and my hard earned cash.
