"Despite his unusual gym and strange demands in order to get him to accept our challenge, Surge proved to be a capable and worthy opponent. Since Cerulean was on our way to the next area of interest, Rock Tunnel (the only way we could reach Saffron, due to the route east of Vermillion being blocked by a Snorlax, and suspicious guards blocking the most direct route), I was able to easily acquire a brand new Bike. Which is nice and all, but I prefer to go on foot anyway, especially as there are places where riding a bike would be a bad idea..."
