I realize I could have gone back and entered the stage with powerups and tried to brute force my way through it that way, but I had just spent about 30 minutes on two of the most infuriating gimmick/level design combinations I'd yet seen in the game (even more so than the yukkuri - at least those moved fast) and I was bloody well sick of it by the end there.

Proper level design shouldn't require pre-stage powerups anyway, but I'm probably just saying that as an excuse for bad play, so.
