I will say compared to Cthulhu Saves the World, the combat has a bit more to it than just spamming area attacks hoping all the monsters die before they kill you. Not by much but its still an improvement (later on I go more aoe heavy in my methods as more abilities unlock). At least in this game there is a use for potions and other items.
