0Meeting up with Professor Frankly in Rogueport,then heading down into the Sewers below. Enemies down here include Goombas,Spiny Goombas,Paragoombas,and Spinias. Nothing too scary. Find the Key to the Black Chest down here to be "Cursed" and receive the Paper Plane ability! Now Mario can fly from certain flight pads. Nearby is the Thousand-Year Door. It will reveal to location of the 1st Crystal Star,near Petalburg in Petal Meadows. You'll also fight against a Blooper on the way there. Take out it's 2 tentacles first,then you can finish it off after it comes crashing down.
