Let's Play Portal Part 6 (FINALE) | THE END?!
1,287Hello YouTube and welcome to the finale of our Portal playthrough! In today's episode we finally come face to face with GLaDOS...Too bad she wants to kill me...
Portal 2 will be played through on the channel as well in a few weeks! I like to space games from the same series out on the channel if I can, thank you for understanding!
Thank you for joining me on the journey that is Portal! I loved this game in its entirety and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!
MY THOUGHTS BELOW:
Graphics 10/10
This game is kind of dated in its graphics, that much is true. Personally I thoroughly enjoy this kind of style. Cartoony graphics hold a special place in my heart and that's what Portal delivers. There might not be a lot of fine details and it has a more simplistic feel to it, but I for one find that enjoyable!
Sound 10/10
The sounds in this game also come from the Half-Life engine but that isn't a bad thing. The effects and voice acting in this game are actually very nice sounding. From the strange sounding portal gun, to the creepy tones in GLaDOS' speech, it all sounded fairly well balanced to me.
Controls 10/10
Very basic controls, WASD and space, LMB and RMB. Nothing too complicated, just a very solid and standard setup.
Story 10/10
The story in this game is the thing that I found the most surprising. Personally I didn't think that there would be a story in this game and I was happy to find that I was mistaken. Portal sets you up in an environment that fools you into believing in what's going on around you. Following GLaDOS' instructions and going throughout the testing seems only natural as you play through the early levels in the game, that is, until you get to the chilling realization that GLaDOS isn't all that she says she is. From then on Portal took me on a wild ride that filled me with paranoia, distrust, and eventually conflicting emotions of sadness/anger. Portal was a wild ride from the beginning, but the story and the amount of thought that went into such a simple game absolutely blew my mind.
TL;DR
Portal is a very good first person, puzzle, adventure style game. The sounds and graphics are all from an outdated Half-Life engine, but they make the most of what they have and create something that is absolutely beautiful in the end. Story really drives this game, if you don't buy it solely on the cool trailer, then buy it for the awesome portal gun, that thing is awesome. One of my favorite games overall, I would highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't played it already.
