Let us take a moment to dedicate a moment of silence for the Arch-Vile. Your presence was truly terrifying and we didn't appreciate you for who you were until it was too late. Your blazing speed, resurrection capabilities, complex attack pattern, and your high frame count. Even your chilling, sinister grunts will be missed. Farewell, Arch-Vile.
Seriously though, it's a tragedy they had to replace him with the Nightmare Specter due to how overly complicated he is as an enemy in Doom II. It's stated he was replaced because they wouldn't have been able to do him justice, and so maybe it's for the best.
Oh, and yes, the map is basically the same minus the Arch-Vile. Just do it.
