Riven is very cool. Stylistically, the Myst series is the only one I know of that provides this kind of isolation atmosphere. There are all these strange devices, weird symbols... And your goal is to puzzle out "what are all these things? What do they do, and how do I use them?".

I've never beaten the game, unfortunately. The game has a very slow pace, due to loading all these FMV clips, which while adding to the atmosphere, also makes it a bit of a chore to experiment and move around the islands at times. If you accidentally took a shuttle to the wrong island, you have to switch disks, watch another FMV of the return travel, switch disks again, and then click through to the correct shuttle to continue to where you intended to go.

I think the game could stand to be just a *smigeon* easier, and that could come from just ever so slight changes. For example, even just being able to skip the videos would let you experiment with things with a lot less turn around time, and make the game a bit more fun to explore.
