I've played this game *waaaay* too much. It's still great, though I think the later games add a lot more content and thus have a lot better experience.

The monster I get is from the Monster Rancher 2 disk.

It's interesting that in later versions of the game, such as for the GBA, allow you to use other forms of getting random numbers (such as typing a word of your choice). This game works by getting certain features like: the length of the first song of the CD, the number of songs, etc. These form the basis of the random numbers used to determine what you get.

So arguably if you had two CDs with the same number of tracks, same number of seconds in each song, etc, then you'd get the same monster regardless of the content.
