Resident Evil is a survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. The original version was released on PlayStation and PC in 1996 with a Sega Saturn port in 1997 and a Nintendo DS release in 2006. It also had two "Director's Cut" editions released in 1997 and 1998. The game was remade for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002 with subsequent ports to the Nintendo Wii, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. This version is often referred to as "REmake."
The franchise has spawned fourteen "mainline" games as well as fifteen spinoffs. Outside of games, Resident Evil has been adapted into seven feature films, animated films and series, a live-action series, novels, comics and even plays.
The version of the game played here is the 2002 Resident Evil remake on PC. This playthrough is being completed using Chris Redfield as the player character.
In Resident Evil, the player takes the role of a member of the Raccoon Police Department's Special Tactics And Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) investigating a series of murders on Raccoon City's outskirts with reports of cannibalistic behaviour. After the STARS Bravo Team goes missing, Alpha Team goes into investigate and finds more trouble than they were ready for after their search and rescue operation goes awry.
