After bundling the mages' scrolls (off-camera), our party returns to Level 8 of the Mines, goes through a barely-functional teleporter at the end of a very long tunnel - and find ourselves in a huge fight against a horde of umber hulks at the other end. We're now on Level 9 of the Mines; however, the teleporter we just came through may not work at all a second time, so our next best bet is to see if whatever has been blocking the central wheellift is located on this level. As it turns out, there's some sort of "force field" artifact near the wheellift, and the guards are a relatively weak force of gargoyles & margoyles - extremely easy to defeat, especially compared to all those umber hulks we just survived!
