Let's play SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2 34: Another point against emotions
Here's a question for you: Is Atlus in love with Capcom's ridiculous plots every bit as their arbitrary and mind-bending stupid dungeon designs, or has Atlus managed to write a really dark story through the eyes of a group of hopelessly idealistic idiots that, somehow, manage to completely fail to notice the various atrocities they commit until they do and secretly break mentally, turn suicidal, and than commit suicide in some vaguely "heroic" fashion that either fools the others into thinking said person didn't turn mad, and fools themselves into thinking they managed to do something worthwhile rather than just get themselves killed like the scores of mooks I've had them devour over the past game and a half?
There's absolutely no need to pull this whole "vaguely heroic but mostly stupid sacrifice" card from a gameplay perspective. If Atlus wanted me to use Cielo to get my ass killed in the next dungeon, they could have just have him say "eh guys, I'll get you all killed now" and force him into my party. They did during the Abaddon fight for no god damned reason what-so-ever, they could have done it again. End result is that my party is rapidly running out of useful members for the sake of...what, exactly? What stopped Serph from moving and subsequently gutting Heat, other than this random-ass "comrades" BS? What stopped Roland from just disabling a shutter or two and stopping Meganada that way? The guys moves as fast as a slug, and Roland alone couldn't have delayed him for more than half a minute while still surviving...mostly. And with the whole Meganada problem solved Argilla could have just walked our the power plant without getting her neck broken. Sure, Meganade would have escaped eventually, probably, but by the time it exited the building it we could have ran laps around Karma City, let alone deal with the whole "God devouring Earth" problem. What happened to Gale being a smart tactician anyway? He's been displaying his incompetence ever since he decided to try and help us free Manipura after the failed attack on the Solids. No, I haven't forgotten.
And before you ask; yes, it will get worse. Didn't think the game was that generous, did you?
