I thin what's getting to me so much in the section is the complete lack of feedback from completing mission objectives in this section. In most of the earlier levels, we've had some verbal support from some handler or other directing us to the next point, whereas in this section, we're basically doing whatever the Mission Objective screen tells us to do, often following increasingly unlikely paths between one area and the next.

It's all very...FPS level, if that makes any sense.
