Soul Blazer came out one year after Actraiser, and shares a lot of common points. The music is fairly similar, the GUI is very, very similar, and a lot of the sound effects were reused. But this isn't a sequel in any real sense. At best it is a spiritual sequel, as Actraiser had a direct sequel in the form of Actraiser 2, but that sequel completely ditched the whole sim mode in favor of just being a more generic action platformer.
This game is closer to an action RPG, and could be called a spiritual sequel to Actraiser, however. It's still a lot of fun, either way, and despite a few flaws here and there, seems to hold up pretty well.
