Let's Play The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages [12] The Crown Dungeon
To hell with this place... The only buffer to my misery is the fact that we aren't swinging a stick around anymore.
Allow me to explain my dislike of Level 5.
Crown Dungeon is wide open from the main room on. It gives no clear indication of which direction to start with, and even worse, you have to backtrack a lot to fiddle with the color switches. Without prior experience with the dungeon, many people might get hopelessly lost due to how many things you HAVE to keep track of. It's sort of like a 6x6 area with holes in each 1x1 block, but it gives you no hints which hole to go down until you waste the time to go down. If you pick wrong, you're forced to try another hole until you get the right one, and then you get to play the guessing game all over again.
On the plus side, the boss was very clever. In most Zelda games, bosses are a way to test your combat abilities with your new items. This boss was simply a puzzle that focused more on your solving skills with the item and made swinging your sword less important. The faster you could solve the puzzle, the safer you were. If only such an awesome boss wasn't at the ass end of a rat maze...
