So Marine Guy got the furthest into the Pit than any playthrough I have ever done. Lets see how Engineer Guy does.

The Engineer is probably the worst class of the bunch as the benefits are far outweighed by the flaws. Engineers start with the weakest armor, knife, and only a single shot pistol (though it does more damage per bullet than an Autopistol). Instead, he starts with a motion sensor which can reveal enemy positions on the map and two repair kits (one for blades the other for ballistic weapons).

He starts with average Pistol skill and slightly below that in Knife. His primary skills all involve repairing electronics, accessing computers, and starts with the best skill in Decrypting. So he can access quite a bit of containers with little issue.

The problem is not only does he start with awful weapons in a game that is mostly decided by combat ability (or you can try running and end up in a higher floor with tougher monsters at a lower exp level and less gear) but, finding better weapons does not help as all other combat skills are abyssmal. This means you will be wasting shots, time, and health as you constantly miss with your better weapons (unless you find pistols and knives).

That is not to say it is pointless to run a game as an Engineer. He can access computers and decrypt rather well meaning you can get recipes alot sooner which can be used in all future runs.
