While Gaston is indeed a very capable soldier and Dawn is a fine sniper, relying on just them in many missions is a liability; all it would take would be some enemies to get a few lucky shots or to mind control Gaston and I'd be in serious trouble. While at the moment there is indeed little the rest of the team can do at points, it's often better to travel as a group rather then have a few squad members go alone and risk dying without support. This is a lesson that I'm going to take to take to heart in the future as the game won't always have enemies this simple to defeat.
