Katrina is reluctant to hand over the sigil of humility without us first doing something to help her. Those things are relatively minor compared – dealing with a pack of wolves and some vultures – but the very fact that she set these as conditions should have alarm bells ringing in your head. Upon hearing her mention how humble she is, they should be ringing all the louder, for those that are truly humble don’t go about rubbing it in everyone’s faces. The fact that she can’t raise the shrine of humility is the final and most obvious strike against Katrina, though she’s still fared far better than Iolo did and she’ll surely return to normal quickly, provided we can restore the shrine.

The process for cleansing this shrine will be the same as the last: we need to place the corrupted glyph of virtue and the sigil of virtue on the shrine and then speak the appropriate mantra. Unfortunately this means heading to Hythloth, a dungeon that has shifted location significantly compared to earlier games. It used to reside on the southern shores of the Isle of the Avatar but is now under New Magincia, why the game won’t say. Finding the entrance to it isn’t so easy either but fortunately there is a place we can access it from. Unfortunately it’s a place we’re not exactly welcome for it is Ambrosia, the underwater city of the gargoyles.

You may wonder why we’re not welcome considering all we did in Ultima VI to ensure peace between humans and gargoyles. Let’s just say that old enmities have resurfaced in the many years we’ve been away.
