Let’s Play Ultima IX #52: Wouldn’t Yew Know, Another Corrupted Virtue
If you thought that Yew had somehow managed to avoid having the virtue associated with it, justice, corrupted by the appearance of the columns, just remember that we got a few clues earlier in the game pointing towards things going very wrong there. Sure enough, the former centre of justice has become a place where almost everything is a crime, everyone is suing everyone and the punishments for said crimes are utterly disproportionate. Suffice to say, we’ll need to tread carefully if we wish to avoid being incarcerated for the rest of our lives or worse.
We can’t tread too carefully, however, for there’s someone soon to go to trial in Yew that we not only know very well but we also know is innocent of the crimes attributed to them. We know this because we were there when it happened and thus know the truth, though whether the court is going to want to listen to the truth when they can just throw the book at every supposed criminal that comes before them is another matter entirely. Even with the urgency impressed upon you through various dialogues, the event-driven nature of the game means that we have all the time in the world to explore Yew before we try and help the person we know, something I hope to do before the day becomes too long in the tooth and we need to find a place to rest.
Who knows, we might stumble across something that’ll be very important later on.
