Let's Play WarCraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal #5 | Orcs Mission 5: Dragons of Blackrock Spire
How do they keep those dragons in check, anyway?
Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal is an expansion pack for Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. It was developed by Cyberlore Studios and released in 1996 by Blizzard Entertainment.
Beyond the Dark Portal takes place after the events of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. The Orcs, now under the leadership of the shaman Ner'zhul, stage a new invasion of Azeroth.
The Alliance has been splintered after the Second War, but the arch-mage Khadgar rallies a group of Alliance heroes and leads them into the Orc homeworld to stop Ner'zhul.
Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal does not include new factions or units, but comes with a twelve-mission campaign for both Orcs and Humans, both of which are much more difficult than the campaigns of the base game.
In addition to that, hero units - beefed-up versions of regular units - are available in the campaign, laying the foundation for the hero units of later Blizzard games.
Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal were later combined as Warcraft II: The Dark Saga and release for Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation in 1997.
