Let's Play Warlocked #3 | Humans Mission 3: Tree of Evil
Did that tree just grow here?
Warlocked is a real-time strategy video game developed by Bits Studios and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color in 2000. The game is set in a traditional high fantasy world and tells the story of a war between the noble Humans and the evil Beasts.
The game is a rare example of a traditional base-building real-time strategy game on a handheld console. Warlocked can be played in singleplayer or against a human opponent, and features a campaign for each faction with twenty-six missions in total.
The missions have a variety of objectives. Occasionally, the player has access only to a small strike force, but in most missions, bases can be build. These consist of farms to increase the food limit and maximum army size, defensive towers, barracks to recruit more troops, and the headquarters. The headquarters allows the player two recruit workers, who in turn harvest fuel and mine gold for the war effort.
The Humans field knights and elven archers, whereas the Beasts have beast soldiers and skeleton archers. Both sides can recruit powerful dragons by finding a dragon egg, hatching it, and having the dragon mature in their headquarters. In addition to that, the player can summon wizards via a temple.
Wizards are one of the game's core features. A wizard is a special unit, and only three wizards per side can be on the battlefield at any given time. Some wizards cast offensive spells, whereas other have passive effects such as an increased defence for units or improved movement speed for workers. A new wizard can be found in each of the campaign missions.
The two campaigns depict the Humans, led by Queen Azarel, against the Beasts, led by Chief Zog. Zog wishes to conquer the human and elven lands and make Queen Azarel his bride.
A sequel to the game, titled Wizards, was in development for the Game Boy Advance, but was cancelled due to the lack of a publisher.
