The only difference between the Survival mode from the base game and the Survival mode DLC is new maps. I saw no sign of any of the advanced bad guys in these maps, but it's possible that's only because I didn't make it past the first map or the tenth wave. And, again, I'm not sure the balance works very well in Survival mode versus the campaign. This is a recommended skip from me; buying the base game and the extended campaign DLCs should cover all your tower defense needs.
