Let's Rant: Episode 2 - Defending (SOME) YouTube Reaction Videos & Channels!
Some YouTube reaction channels and videos show off someone with a webcam on, watching a video. This is the basic definition of a reaction video/channel. However, there are 2 different types of reaction videos/channels. There are kinds that only show the person watching the whole video without meaningful commentary/criticism/anything new of value, and those that do give these things. There's a YouTube law that says that if you watch someone else's content and give commentary/criticism/parody/etc., then it's considered "Fair Use". For me, if you only show yourself watching a video, and you don't give commentary/criticism/parody/etc., then it shouldn't fall under Fair Use, period! If on the other hand, you do give one of these things, or a combination of these things, then yes it falls under Fair Use. It's one thing to give new value to content already made, it's another if you don't. If for instance, you react to one of my videos, and I see you give commentary/criticism/parody/etc., then I'll respect you and what you do, but if on the other hand you just sit or stand there and just watch the video without giving anything new, then we've got a problem. Anyway, that does it for today's rant, I hope you all enjoy. Have a good weekend everyone!
