Man, Yoshimoto's so goofy, why'd they even bother making him a Warlord?

Born in 1519 to Imagawa Ujichika, Imagawa Yohimoto was sent as a child to study for a religious life. His father died and left Yoshimoto's brother Ujiteru in power, but once he died as well Yoshimoto and after a struggle, thanks to Sessai and the Takeda, he managed to seize control of his clan and married someone in the Takeda family. Concerned by his proximity with the Kai province and the Takeda that were there, though, he helped one of the sons take power as well, eventually marrying their sons and daughters together to reinforce relations.

Both the Takeda and the Imagawa were under pressure by the Hojo for getting a bit too close, but after some struggle and negotiation they decided for a truce to deal with their own problems - namely, the growing threat of the Oda clan to the west.

In 1540, the lord of the Matsudaira died and power went to the 14-year old Hirotada, and so the Imagawa kinda took control for him for a while. In 1548, once the Oda actually attacked the Matsudaira, Yoshimoto sent an army, and to strengthen relations he convinced Hirotada to send his son, Matsudaira Motoyasu, as a hostage. The Imagawa won the battle, and with Hirotada dying in 1549 Yoshimoto pretty much controlled the Matsudaira clan by then.

Though Sessai died in 1557, Yoshimoto was in a good enough position to try and take over Kyoto; in 1560, he marched with around 20 000 soldiers towards Kyoto. After taking back two cities from the Oda, while stopping to watch a play, and right after a thunderstorm, the Oda attacked, managing to catch Yoshimoto off-guard and killing him. Even with a successor, Ujizane, the Imagawa would lose to the Takeda and Tokugawa eventually, so with his death the clan pretty much lost all its power.

So, seems like they portray him as goofy because he died such a simple death (being said to have been too sluggish to stop the ambush), thus being portrayed as an ignorant buffoon... but I think having an obsession with Pokemari is going a bit too far, no?

(By the way, the pun with Pokemari is in reference to the game Kemari, where you try and keep one ball in the air cooperatively with others; you've probably played this with a bean-bag as a child.)
