I've had this at 95% finished for well over a year now, but I held off from making a video about it until I had a mask for it. Ennard also has an inexplicable button pinned to the center of the chest, but since I usually display this with the mask off, I decided to omit that detail as it would look incredibly out of place without the mask accompanying it.

I had the idea to build this after watching a three-minute behind the scenes featurette on cable-puppetry from Aliens (1986). I started building it that same day, without any planning or consideration, fast forward a bit, things happened, and now I keep a one-to-one Ennard replica looming over my bed every night.

The neck mechanism with the levers is the exact same principle as a bicycle handbrake: Steel cables inside a hollow plastic shell that can transfer motion over however far a distance the cables can reach. Since the internal wires have no room to bend or kink, being snugly encased in the outer shell, in/out movement at one end has nowhere to go but directly down the length of the cable to the other end. When you turn the wheels the levers are attached to, more cable is pushed into the neck on one side just as it's being pulled out on the opposing side, causing the neck to curl.

The tubes are plastic wire conduit used for electrical cable management, the kind with the split down the middle. You can get it in silver, but I chose to use black and paint it afterwards because A. It came out cheaper, and B. the silver kind doesn't stay pristine for very long.
