We selected the KESX Doppler Radar Station for corresponding snapshots of radar reflectivity and velocity information at approximate times of 1934 to 2005, but is not shown in this upload to avoid confusion with the National Weather Service (NWS). The sound of thunder was not perceptible at the observed distance from the lightning or thunderstorm (heat lightning). Personal Interpretations: Our camera was pointed north east relative to Highway 93. Upon reviewing the radar reflectivity product showing the intensity of the precipitation of the area, relative to our location, and at the specified time range, we interpret a higher intensity of precipitation corresponding with our visual observation, north east from our point of observation, and believe the lightning observed likely occurred some 30 miles east relative to the center of Alamo and 40 miles NE relative to our position, with the lightning visible and the thunder just beyond audible range. Heat lightning is not a type of lightning and is simply lightning from a thunderstorm that is beyond the audible distance of sound relative to the observer. Light is visible at far greater distances than sound as it travels through the atmosphere as a wave. Always note the exact coordinates of observation. Based on the reflectivity data from multiple local radars, it is possible confirm the location of the lightning regardless of the point of the observer. #nevada #lightning #weather #thunderstorm
